The new edition of Art Basel HK has opened amidst controversy. Former fair director Magnus Renfrew is set to launch a new art fair, Taipei Dangdai, in 2019. A challenge? According to Renfrew, of course not. He admits, in an interview with Artnews, that he will take the Hong Kong fair — which he once worked for — as a model, but insists there’s no intention of competing. Still, the sponsor will be UBS, already the main partner of Art Basel.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, March 27, the spotlight turned to Hong Kong, welcoming nearly 250 galleries from over thirty countries. Alongside global giants like many Italian galleries were present as well: [...] Galleria d’Arte Maggiore G.A.M. from Bologna.
