London | Allen Jones. Taking Shape - Camden Art Projects

A new solo exhibition of works by British Pop Art pioneer Allen Jones opens at CAP, London

Allen Jones is universally recognized as one of the most influential figures of Pop Art and continues to occupy a central position within the contemporary art scene. His solo exhibition "Taking Shape", currently on view at Camden Art Projects in London, confirms the enduring relevance of his artistic research and the sustained international interest his work continues to generate. A trajectory that Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. has followed closely for many years through solo exhibitions, curatorial projects, and initiatives dedicated to promoting and enhancing his artistic production.

International attention surrounding Allen Jones has recently intensified following his collaboration with Kim Kardashian for the 2026 Met Gala in New York. On that occasion, the sculptural corset worn by the entrepreneur and created by the artist directly referenced Body Armour (1978), one of his most iconic works. The piece had recently been featured in the exhibition "Allen Jones. Forever Icon", organized by Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. in 2024, once again highlighting Jones's remarkable ability to engage with contemporary culture, fashion, and the global visual landscape.

Taking Shape offers an important insight into the formal research that has characterized the artist's entire career. At the heart of the exhibition lies his ongoing investigation into the construction of form, developed through the encounter of seemingly opposing elements: concrete and abstract, transparency and solidity, sensuality and structure. Jones experiments with a wide range of materials, from Corten steel to Perspex, alternating rough and polished surfaces, metallic elements and vibrant colours, in a continuous perceptual dialogue that challenges the boundaries between figuration and abstraction.

His artistic language moves seamlessly between painting, sculpture, and installation. Through the manipulation of colour, light, and line, Jones creates visual tensions that evoke movement and transformation, producing works that do not merely occupy space but actively redefine it, engaging visitors in a dynamic and ever-evolving perceptual experience.

The London exhibition presents works from different stages of the artist's career, including Aerial (2026), created specifically for the occasion and demonstrating the vitality of his most recent research. The work enters into dialogue with earlier pieces produced between 1987 and 1999, such as Believe It or Not (1999), a mixed-media work on wood. These works were previously exhibited in the exhibition "Believe It or Not", organized by Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. in 2002, a project that brought together painting, sculpture, and installation, highlighting the profoundly multidisciplinary nature of Jones's practice and his ongoing interest in merging different artistic languages within a distinctly Pop sensibility.

The presence of these works within Taking Shape underscores the coherence and continuity of the artist's research over the decades, offering visitors a comprehensive perspective on the evolution of his creative practice.

Throughout this journey, Maggiore g.a.m. has played a fundamental role in supporting and promoting Allen Jones's work through projects that have explored its most significant aspects, demonstrating a long-standing commitment that has contributed substantially to the dissemination and appreciation of his work both in Italy and internationally.
