The roar of Arman's Grande Rampante in Rome

Ansa, June 21, 2023
The rumble of the legendary Ferrari F40s that form La Grande Rampante by Arman, one of the first signatory founders and among the greatest exponents of Nouveau Réalisme, in front of the entrance to the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack, also lives on in Rome inside Maggiore g.a.m. & Sina Bernini Bristol Open Space, located inside the homonymous Roman hotel in Piazza Barberini.
The work, a bronze assemblage made up of deconstructed and reassembled replicas of the Ferrari F40 model, was commissioned to Arman by Franco Calarota, founder of Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m., and by the Municipality of Imola.
"After the long closure due to Covid - explains Bernabò Bocca, president and CEO of Sina Hotel group as well as president of Federalberghi during the inauguration - we decided to resume our activity by opening our hotels to Roman citizens.
Too often hotels are seen as only open to tourists. Instead, opening the hotel the local already happens abroad and we want to follow. We already do it at our hotel in Venice. In recent days we have been lucky enough to have Elon Musk here and he was fascinated by this work. I think if the richest man in the world, who has seen everything, is fascinated by the artwork it means we have done well."
Built in 1999 and inaugurated on April, 30th that same year on the occasion of the San Marino Formula 1 Grand Prix, the monument celebrates the all-Italian history of Ferrari. For the occasion, the Maranello car manufacturer has granted the use of the iconic red paint both for the monument, which measures five meters in height, and for its scale reproductions such as the one exhibited in Rome. Open Space aims to be a point of reference for the fruition of art with a place open 24/7 in a venue, such as the hall of a hotel which by its very nature welcomes visitors. In 1994 Maggiore g.a.m. curated a personal exhibition of Arman at the Mic - International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza in which the artist engages with monumental ceramic assemblage sculptures, where among the various works he reproduced a Fiat 500 model made of ceramics, in the original size of the car, called Piccin gari (1994).
