Wim Wenders, Présence (2022, 36 min, col., vof)
In this installation produced in 2020 and 2021 and presented for the first time at the Venice Biennale in 2022, Wim Wenders explores the world of Claudine Drai in 3D. Fascinated and moved by the work of the visual artist, the filmmaker felt that her art was distinct from everything he had seen until then, at the same time moving and evocative. He wanted to know more about this mysterious spiritual realm made mostly of white paper. Claudine Drai, for her part, felt that she could entrust Wim Wenders with her fragile and poetic universe. During the discussions and meetings that followed, they decided to venture into uncharted territory together. It would not just be a filmmaker's view of an artist, but a joint creation, a work in its own right, free from any existing rules or art forms.
